Yeoui Naru Ferry Terminal

Seoul, South Korea

The Yeoui Naru Ferry Terminal is designed as integrated and immersive experience. It functions as a nodal attraction point that serves both ferry transportation activities and cultural experiences that draw people to the area. Program is layered vertically as one transitions from ferry activities on the main floor, through cultural exhibitions spaces on the 2nd floor and apexing at the 3rd floor observatory that extends people out over the water. The interconnected spaces allow the building to take on a streamlined form reminiscent of a ship, enabling the terminal itself to become a berthed ship amongst its peers. Public permeability and amenity spaces are carried forward from the shore through to the marina and dock areas by means of a 360° stage that allows pedestrians and boaters to enjoy performances from all angles.

The performance stage at the tip of the ferry terminal extends the cultural axis from Yeoui Naru Park out onto the water. As a publicly accessible area, the stage can be enjoyed by both pedestrians arriving from the park and boaters. The stage provides 360° viewing angles and utilizes the Han River and the Seoul skyline as its backdrop. The stage is equally adaptable to engage both daytime and night time performance venues.
